I took this design from the pattern page here. Cut it with 1/8 in ply wood. Then I put it on some walnut. Before I cut the outer shape I glued the ply onto the walnut then cut them together. I also stained the walnut with poly simi gloss, 2 coats. Then when I stained the ply I used oak stain. It also added a nice look on the walnut.
This is a gift I made for my dad for Christmas. I added 3 metal hooks for the keys. Not the best cutting, but I learned some things and ultimately I think a lot of my prayers were answered, because this will work for a gift.

Actually yes, because my original intention was to do exactly what you did with the pegs. When I went to the local hardware store (Lowes) I didnt see any like what you used, so I improvised and got metal hooks. Thanks for showing your project for me to see how it would look if I had used the wood pegs.

Yes, I was fortunate to have 3 old wooden shaker pegs laying around from a previous project and a piece of walnut bark wood on hand and it seemed like a good place for Steve's nice Happy Trails pattern. I'm sure your Dad will enjoy his Christmas gift. What did you use for a hanger?

great hat, looks very nice to me.

To hang this project I used 2 small self-leveling picture hangers. I bought them at Lowes. They seem to work pretty nice, but if there is a better way to hang such things I am open to know.
