I not only made a belt buckle, I also made a belt!
It is completely made of red oak and there are no metal fastners in it. I made this back in 2009.

Always think "Outside the lines". ;)
To be honest about it, I cut the links for the belt on my table saw and drilled holes for the dowells in them on my drill press. The only scrolling done was on the buckle but, it was my design. :)
I have worn it for a short time, it is VERY uncontrfable and won't do a very good job of holding your pants up. :D :D :D :D
Now, my brother wants me to make a set of suspenders! :o ::)
