Title: Made a sign and jig
Post by: don in brooklin on on September 19, 2012, 02:00:17 pm
I had a request to make a sign for my BIL from my other BIL. (Some sort of inside joke on the size of the shed)

I wanted to do raised letters so I set my saw to 3 degrees (ex-21) and wanted to drill the holes at the same 3 degrees to make the blade feeding easier.  I have an old Crafman drill press the is a real pain to change the angle and then get it back to 90.

I created a table that I can raize and lower to the right angle and then drill the holes.  I use a Wixey to adust the wing nuts on the end.  I now know that 3 degrees is 1.125 inches on the end.

Great thinking out of the box like that.  I like the idea.. Just wish I had a newer drill press.  Mine is a Duncan and it with built in 1956 :)  Still runs well though..  Thanks for sharing the idea with us and the plate.

Love the sign, looks cool.   Know what you mean about readjusting the drill press table; Your jig is a good idea.

what is a Wixey??

An digital angle finder.  Great in the shop expecially if you have a table saw.  I have used with my scrollsaw but it is a little tight to get to the blade.

They have free shipping and handling on orders over $40 till Monday so you have to order something else.

The real Wixey is at BusyBee if you have one on the rock.  They also ship free.
