Title: Picture Frame Glass
Post by: Billy in Va on July 22, 2012, 12:40:34 pm
I do not use glass in my frames and have a stack of the glass. Any ideas on what to do with it?

I make my own frames so no glass here.  ;)  Try recycling in the trash, they take glass here!

Any municipality with a recycling program usually takes glass.
I took a whole box fill of clean glass to a local hardware store and asked if they would like to have it...
Reply, "Yeah we'll take it out back and put it in the recycle bin."
So I took it home and put it in MY recycle bin!

p.s. They were brand new Ace Hdwe in the area and are now in the process of going through a Going Out of Business Sale after less than a year of being open.

I buy glass for my shop class sometimes. You could see if there is a school who could use it.

Thanks MRSN,  Should have thought of that myself. Our schools here usually can find a use for most things.

Before you take your glass to the recycle bin. Please post it on FReecycle.  There are many crafters like me who do GOG (glass on glass) and would love to have your unwanted glass pieces.  Your local charity shops will usually take the glass and resell it.  Wish you lived close to me I would come and get all you have.

My wife suggested the same thing and for basically thesame reason. I used to check freecycle but when it went from listing to wanting It got to be to involved.  The last ad I read before stopping was:  WANTED A good used boat and motor. One good for fishing that I will not have to work on.......  Geezzzzz  Me too!

One thing you could do with your glass.  Protect your cuttings.  They are going to have to be dusted sometime or other and the small parts are awful easy to catch onto what ever you are dusting with.  I even have my Dome tower enclosed in glass, the whole two sides.  Also there are people who can't keep their fingers off and that will cause breakage, finger marks, etc.  If I had any frames without glass I would take it.  Any reflection off the glass (the main reason for not using it) is negotiable.  The protection is worth it....)
