I've been making this Marilyn Monroe Desk Plaque, Statue, Sculpture, not really sure what to call it. But the real issue being debated in my household is "Should it be on the base, or just the grid?" Personally I'm leaning towards the base, but not committed to that opinion yet, I do see the other argument too. It's not finished yet, the base in the picture is not permanently attached. So what do you think, which way does it look better? And while I got ya, what term would you use to describe it?
Thanks for your help!
Bob
PS...Thanks to Big Pete for the inspiration of this project.

Hello Bob,
first of all I want to say I really like what you made there.
Personally I like it the most without the base and my wife agrees with me.
But again, my compliments for the idea and for the result.
Greetings, Richard

Nice work Bob! I like it with or without the base, but if I had to choose, I would say without. I would call it a desk plaque.
-
No doubt here either - no base , looks brilliant just on the grid.
-
I think the base detracts from the "ARTWORK IN WOOD".
-
OK, so far the overwhelming opinion is "NO BASE" it just looks so good in person though! For some reason without the base it just seems like its missing something to me, so I am open to any suggestions you guys might have to make her look better without the base, or should I just leave well enough alone? I'm usually not this indecisive, but I really want this to be nice when I'm done with it and something just doesn't feel right with the grid just sitting on a table.
Thanks again
Bob

Hey Bob, How about insetting the grid into a flat base that would mimic the sidewalk?
-
I like it with out the base. You might try a base that is wider then then grid, it might balance out the piece better.
-
I also prefare no base, but I do like Dan's and Katie's suggestions.

Hey Bob you did a good job of it and i love the grid , But i to would go without the base ! Dan's suggestion sounds like a good idea if you could have the grid within some sort of base to mimic the walkway !
I will cut mine soon as have been very busy ! Will post the pics when done ... let us know what you decide ?...Pete

I would set the base inside a bigger peace of wood, then make the wood gray like a side walk & paint a pare of hands next to the grid.
Just remember I have sawdust for brains.

I really like what you have done Bob. I vote "no" base. It is such an iconic image that it is not missing anything. A wider base along the lines suggested by Dan and Katie might give it more balance. But I think it looks great as is.

great looking work. But alas I must concur.. no base for me as well!
-
Really nice work, without base would work for me, but either way is ok. Edward

Ya gots to give her the appearance of walking over that grid when that gust of win blew her skirt up with a sidewalk showing and maybe the building behind.
Anyway.... Danny :+}

Thanks to all of you for your opinions! You guys, and gals, are great! I also love Dan's idea of adding a sidewalk, I just cant make it work on this one being the grid is too big and I don't want to cut it down now.
I will make a new pattern with the side walk incorporated for the next one I make.
Again Thanks Everyone!

The raised base makes it look top heavy and unstable to me.
The Grill alone works best and will be more stable on the desk.

Cool idea remember KISS keep it simple stu you get the idea.
